AMERICAN HIGHER EDUCATION

MAJOR PRESENTATION

AHRD 670
FALL SEMESTER, 2007

DESIRED LEARNING OUTCOME - Students will be able to define and describe major areas of American Higher Education; provide a history or evolution of the area; examples of how the area manifests itself at different types of institutions; what the area's trends and issues are; and what the future implications are for the area.

REQUIRED STUDENT ACTIVITY

Class members will work to research and present information relevant to one major area of American Higher Education. Oral presentations will include desired learning outcomes, assigned readings for the class (made available the week before the presentation), references, and appropriate learning activities. Both the written and oral presentations should meet the desired learning outcomes. Oral presentations will be for the entire class. Written papers are due by the end of the next class meeting.  Students should provide the Instructor with two hard copies of their paper.

Presenter(s) must meet with the instructor at least twice about the presentation. The first meeting will focus on defining the area to be researched and identifying learning outcomes and appropriate resources. The second meeting, held at least two weeks prior to the oral presentation, will involve reviewing an outline of the presentation that the group has prepared detailing not only the content, but the format of the presentation and the required class readings.
