I
recognized early the value of technology in meeting students’ needs and
providing for a learner-centered environment and sought out new technologies
to implement in my classroom. I did understand, however, the importance of
assessing the value of these tools and using them only when appropriate.
There are times when technology is not the best approach, so I strove to
provide a variety of learning experiences for my students. In the lesson,
Look Out Michael Jordan, Here Comes… I used technology for several
purposes. First, video was used interactively to provide content and engage
the students. The Internet is used by the students to locate information
from a given website. An alternate source of the information is noted in
case the Internet is not available. A spreadsheet is used to collect and
analyze data. The focus is on the use of the spreadsheet as a tool, so I
opted to have one spreadsheet that is displayed for the class that all
groups can enter their data. This is less time consuming than having each
student create and enter their own data and students can easily see the
results when the data is graphed. |
