See the links above for a reflections from NETS*T-certified teachers and ITRTs regarding their experience.  In sum, they touch on the numerous benefits of the NETS*T certification program:

Provides a solid foundation for technology-enhanced teaching and learning.
Provides credibility and confidence through attainment of a recognized credential through a rigorous program of accomplishment.
Provides a common focal point, framework, and language for coordinating professional development activities across schools, divisions, consortia, and states.

Provides for collaboration within a supportive virtual community of peers that remains in place even after certification is achieved, thus supporting both established and new generations of tech-enabled teachers.

Provides for identification and dissemination of exemplary work products that can be used as model artifacts to guide others and to populate content repositories.
Provides a competitive advantage for hiring and promotion.
Supports the development of tech-accomplished lead teachers who can then serve as models and mentors for others, building synergy within and across schools.
Supports evaluation by supervisors who have responsibility for the professional development of the teachers pursuing the certification, thus maximizing relevance and engagement.
Can be used in conjunction with any existing professional development program, incorporating both formal and informal activities.
Can be pursued at one’s own pace; teachers possessing requisite skills progress to certification faster than do teachers who have yet to acquire the skills.
Can support optimal hardware/software acquisition and deployment by assuring that teachers who receive resources are trained in the effective use of those resources.
Low cost to teacher/division.
