One of the obstacles in creating electronic portfolios is that these systems often do not support uploading of large files.  This restriction limits teachers in the types of artifacts they can submit (e.g., only text and still images) and does not allow the full extent of teachers' creativity such as can be demonstrated with technologies like digital video.

This limitation is overcome for the JMU Partnership NETS*T e-portfolio through the use of a Large File Server.  Instead of uploading their large files directly to the NETS*T Certification system, teachers may first upload their large artifacts to the Large File Server and then link to these artifacts when preparing their submission.
