SVTC Ed Tech grant to be featured
in Capitol Hill Ed Tech Showcase

Hi all,

I am pleased to report that JMU and the SVTC have been
invited to participate in the upcoming Ed Tech Showcase for
Congress.  The invitation has been extended by ISTE; see
details below.  As you know, ISTE and JMU/SVTC are partners
on the SVTC Ed Tech grant.

This Showcase allows us an excellent opportunity to feature
not only our use of technology, but the great teachers who
are at the heart of the SVTC grant.  I think Karen Campbell
(Harrisonburg) and I will be attending.  As you know, Karen
was the first teacher to become fully NETS*T certified by
the SVTC.  On Thursday, Nov. 13, I guess we will find out
for sure if Karen is the first teacher in the country
(world) to receive that distinction.

Thanks to all of you for your support in making this
possible.  Will let you know how it turns out.

Rich

{{Rich Ingram (JMU) - This is an unusual request, but is it
possible that you, or a very knowledgeable representative of
your project/consortium could join us in the booth on
Capitol Hill on November 13, 2003, to talk about the
importance to rural education of technology, ISTE, and the
NETS standards?  Bring a school person ... teacher or
teacher trainer ... if you can.   You also get to brag about
your project and invite congress to 'come see you.'
(Possibly with a brochure.)  Also, we need to talk about
official positioning of your certificates and pioneering
efforts at sanctioning teachers as "meeting NETS*T."  We
have some official mechanisms we need to discuss for ISTE's
official acknowledgments and possible SEAL OF NETS
ALIGNMENT.

Also, we need to talk about documenting your measuring of
student achievement for those teachers who become "masters
of NETS."  Can you join us Thursday?  Don...}}
