o back and write the definitions
for the terms on the other sides of the cards.
- Read the text around the unknown word
to see if you can figure out what it means. This is called using
context clues. If you can figure out the meaning, write
the definition on the back of the card.
- If you can't figure out the meaning
from the context clues, see if the word is in the glossary
at the back of the book. If you find it, write the definition
on the back of the card.
- If you can't find the definition in
a glossary, look the word up in the dictionary and write
the definition on the back of the card.
- If you still can't find the definition, then
ask your teacher.

two piles of cards.
- Review the cards. If you understand
the definitions for the words, put them in a pile and study
them so that you can remember the meanings of the words.
- If you do not understand the definition
you have written, then ask your teacher to explain it. Use self-talk
to explain the meaning to yourself.
